Survived by: Wife of 71 years, Phyllis; children, Marilyn (spouse, Jon) Boustead of Woodbine, IA, Jan (spouse, Ted) Hogya of Omaha, NE, Doug (spouse, Cathy) Hansen of Woodbine, IA, Bev Clark of Neligh, NE, and Dan (spouse, Janet) Hansen, of Earling, IA; 15 grandchildren; 3 step-granddaughters; 30 great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; other family members and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Carl and Mildred Hansen; sisters, Margaret, Dorothy, and Frances; brothers, Marion and Dean; an infant son in 1965; daughter, Rita Poncelet; grandson, Troy Clark

Education: Graduated from Missouri Valley High School. Class of 1942

Religious affiliation: Received his early sacraments at Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church in Magnolia, IA;was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Woodbine, IA

Military service: As the oldest son, he stayed in the U. S. during WWII to assist with the family farm.

Marriage: Phyllis Shields; April 1948; St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dunlap, IA

Employment: worked at the Martin Bomber Plant during WWII, and farmed on the weekends and after work with his father; after the war, he farmed full-time and raised Hampshire hogs. In 1974, Darrell became an insurance agent as well as forming Hammitt-Hansen Realty with Max Hammitt and sold real estate for several years. Darrell retired in 1999.

Hobbies/Interests: Golf; woodcarving; involved in the community, including REC (Rural Electric Cooperative), the Woodbine Community School Board, Knights of Columbus, and 4-H; his children all belonged to 4-H from 1960 until 1977 and Darrell remained a strong supporter of both the Harrison County Fair and the 4-County Fair; Darrell enjoyed being a “step-on guide” for bus tours that came thru the Loess Hills prairie lands in the fall; additionally, he and Phyllis volunteered at the Harrison County Historical Village, and particularly enjoyed the school students coming to visit the Village at the end of the school year. He enjoyed traveling all over the country and Canada and wintering in Arizona with Phyllis.
