Education: Attended Fairview #5 in Corley, Shelby County, IA for elementary school; he then attended New Park School, Harlan, IA and graduated from Harlan Community High School, Class of 1966
Religious affiliation: Methodist
Military service: Inducted on March 4, 1968 into the U. S. Army, serving overseas in Vietnam from July 1968 to July 1969; honorably discharged from Fort Gordon, GA in March 1970. He was promoted to Buck Sargent during his time of service.
Marriage: Patricia Riggs; Sep. 2, 1978; First United Methodist Church, Atlantic, IA
Employment: After high school, Dale worked at the Texaco filling station in Harlan. After completing his military service, Dale managed the Texaco Station in Atlantic, IA for 2 years. He then worked for Nielsen Oil in Harlan for several years. In 1978, Dale started working for Wells Dairy where he delivered milk, rain, snow or shine for 17 years. He was then employed by Conway Central Express (CCX) for 18 years as an over-the-road trucker. Dale retired in 2011 at age 63. He spent most of his retirement playing golf but would occasionally continue his career of driving truck for Schomer's Farms and Cyclone Seed, as well as for Grabill trucking and Toby Hastert.
Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed taking golfing trips and vacations with his family, and watching old black and white movies
