Education: Attended grade school in Merrill, IA and middle and high school at Gaylen Catholic school in Le Mars, IA; he then attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE as a biology major. After college graduation, he ultimately pursued his dream of attending dental school at Creighton University.

Religious affiliation: Catholic; taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) and participated in both local and regional boards for St. Michael's Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: Growing up, he worked at his parents locker plant in LeMars, IA; after completing dental school, he opened a dental practice in Harlan, IA in 1974 before retiring in 2017. He was an avid innovator and was proud of his acquired skills in orthodontia. He also provided care for Medicaid patients and was a strong political advocate for their needs. Tom was a leader in the Iowa Dental Association and served as officer, delegate, committeeman and finally as President of the IDA in 2015. He believed in the IDA Mission of Mercy (IMOM) and worked annually at the was a leader in the Iowa Dental Association and served as officer, delegate, committeeman and ultimately President of the IDA in 2015. He believed in the IDA Mission of Mercy and worked yearly at the IMOM's which provided free dental care for those in need.

Hobbies/Interests: While attending Creighton University, he was a huge Bluejay basketball fan, attending games during college and for the rest of his life. Was a community leader and served on the Harlan Municipal Utilities Board of Directors, as Chamber of Commerce President, and on the Harlan Golf and Country Club Board. Loved to sing while he mowed his yard; on-line shopping for kitchen gadgets; enjoyed golfing with friends; mostly, he enjoyed his family.
