Employment: After completing high school, he worked at a gas station in Harlan, IA, until his military service. Afterwards, he returned to working at a service station in Atlantic, IA, for 2 years before starting work for Nielsen Oil in Harlan. In 1978 he was employed by Wells Dairy for 17 years. Finally, he was employed by Conway Central Express for 18 years as a truck driver, and retired from there in 2011. After retiring, he would occasionally drive trucks for Schomer’s Farms, Cyclone Seed, Grabill Trucking and Toby Hastert.
