Military service: In 1964, Robert entered the U. S. Army Reserves before serving active duty for 7 months, and then returning to the reserves to complete his 5-year commitment

Marriage: Janet Kay Best; Jan. 28, 1966; Broadway Methodist Church, Council Bluffs, IA

Employment: Began his truck driving years on a milk delivery route, and then for Persia Milling. In 1970, the family moved to Irwin, IA, where he worked for over 25 years for Irwin Elevator.

Hobbies/Interests: Loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and playing with them; also participated in RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, for 15 years.
