Survived by: Children, Doug Langer of Shelby, IA, Dennis (spouse, Penny) Langer of Hancock, IA, Laurie (spouse, Craig) Tietjen of Lawrence, KS, and Lynette Langer of Avoca, IA; grandchildren, Dawn Breaman, Brian (spouse, Jen) Langer, Misty (spouse, Ben) Tornblom, Brandt (spouse, Heidi) Langer, Kelsey (spouse, Blake) Peterson, Brooke (spouse, Tom) Lewis, Blair (spouse, Peter) Chen, and Parker Tietjen; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family members and friends

Education: Attended country schools in Minden, Walnut, Avoca and Hancock, all in Iowa. He graduated from Avoca High School with the Class of 1947. While there, he played football and baseball, and his high school football coach nicknamed him "Slim."

Religious affiliation: Life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA and served on the Church Council

Military service: Served in the U. S. Army Air Corps (later known as the U. S. Air Force)

Marriage: Betty Carroll; Dec. 27, 1947; First Lutheran Church, Avoca, Pottawattamie County, IA

Employment: After his military service was completed, he worked as a hired hand for area farmers until he began farming on his own in 1957. He retired from farming in 2002.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, American Legion in Avoca for over 50 years and served as Commander; board member, Pottawattamie County Fair; member, Elks Club in Atlantic, IA; active member, National Farmers' Organization; enjoyed playing pool and playing cards
