Military service: Before finishing high school, Richard entered the U. S. Marine Corp on May 30, 1978 in Omaha, NE; later, while married and raising their 4 children, he joined the U. S. Army National Guard and served until his honorable discharge on June 11, 1986

Marriage: Cathy Ann Mitchell; July 26, 1980; Rockport, Atchison County, MO

Employment: After his discharge from the Army National Guard, he worked for American Meter and some other odd jobs. In April 1986, he was involved in a serious automobile accident that left him paralyzed. His natural abilities included being a tinkerer and he loved taking things apart and putting them back together, including repairing computers for a local Radio Shack.

Hobbies/Interests: Liked to use his CB radio and was an avid HAM radio operator
