Education: Attended country school through Grade 5. When Phyllis was in 6th grade, she started to attend public school in Walnut, IA; Phyllis excelled in basketball and softball for all 4 years of high school. She graduated from Walnut High School, Class of 1957. While in school, she was also involved in 4-H for 10 years and held county offices.

Religious affiliation: Lifelong member, Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and was an ELCA circle leader. Additionally, she served as a Luther League youth group sponsor.

Employment: After graduation from high school, Phyllis worked at Guaranteed Mutual in Omaha, NE; after her marriage, she actively farmed with her husband.

Hobbies/Interests: They enjoyed wintering in Florida for 20 years; she loved playing cards and dancing
