Military service: Inducted into the U. S. Army in April 1951; sent to Korea on active duty for over 18 months and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars, the Army Occupation Medal (Japan) and the United Nations Service Medal. Honorably discharged in April 1953 at Camp Carson, CO

Marriage: Mary Heller; Aug. 21, 1951; Portsmouth, IA

Employment: After attending trade school, he returned to Earling, IA and worked for his brother, Charles, as an electrician for 4 years; after completion of his military service, he and Mary purchased and operated the family business, Finken's Store, for over 35 years.

Hobbies/Interests: lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 615, Earling, IA having served as adjutant commander and finance officer for over 30 years; long-time member, Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post No. 941 of Shelby County; lifetime member, Knight's of Columbus Council 1471, Earling, IA and the Luke E. Hart Assembly and also served as the Grand Knight for the Golden Jubilee in 1963; member, Business Men's Club and had served as president and received the Business Man of the Year award; volunteer, Earling (IA) Fire and Rescue; Scout Master; officer on the Church Parish Council; he enjoyed having coffee with friends every morning; playing cards; golfing; telling jokes
