Education: Graduated from high school in Oakland, IA; attended Iowa State University before entering the military; about the mid-1950s, he returned to Iowa State University to finish college and graduated in 1959

Military service: U. S. Navy, during World War II from Aug. 1943 through Aug. 1946
Marriage: Ruth Swanson; Aug. 2, 1953; location not provided
Employment: After his military service, he returned to Harlan and opened a Dairy Queen there in 1952; after his marriage in 1953, Charles and Ruth moved to Washington, D.C. as Charles became a meteorologist; they returned to Iowa 3 years later. Charles then went back to Iowa State University to finish college and graduated in 1959. Charles and Ruth moved to Kansas City for his work as a meteorologist, then on to Loveland, CO, and then to Norwalk, IA. In 1967, while in Norwalk, Charles started an apple orchard and continued to work the orchard until 1986, even though he had retired from meteorology in 1982. At that time, they next moved to Panora, IA, and then to Tennessee for a few years before relocating back to Atlantic, IA in 1993, where they remained.
Hobbies/Interests: Was a supporter of Trees Forever and a past member of the Optimist Club
