Education: Attended grade school in Montana Township, Buffalo County, Waumandee, WI, and then attended Arcadia High School in Arcadia, WI, and graduated with the Class of 1940
Religious affiliation: After relocating to Harlan, IA, they joined the Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan; later, they were charter members of Grace Baptist Church, also in Harlan. Phyllis was active in both churches as a preschool teacher and with the various womens’ groups.

Employment: During WWII, while her husband was serving his country, Phyllis remained at home to raise her son. After the war, she began working at the Baptist Memorial Home, Harlan, and remained there for over 9 years. Next, she went worked at the Golden Rule Electrical Repair in Harlan and, in 1968, she was employed by the Harlan Hy-Vee grocery store, where she worked in their meat department until she retired in 1984. Not quite ready to quit working entirely, Phyllis started working part-time at Mickels Family Restaurant with their catering crew and in the kitchen, baking cookies and doing other food prep. In addition, she enjoyed working with the Hospital Auxiliary in their Gift Shop at Myrtue Hospital in Harlan, IA.
Hobbies/Interests: Enjoyed gardening and tending to the flowers; cooking and baking; time spent with family
