Funeral services: Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018; First Presbyterian Church, Shelby, IA, with Military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #240, Shelby, IA; burial was in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, IA

Survived by: Wife of 71 years, Aletha Buck of Shelby, IA; daughters, Terry Larson of Topeka, KS, Rebekah (spouse, John) Lambrix of Rochester, NY, and Cynthia (spouse, Mark) Tuttle of Urbandale, IA; sons, Robert H. Buck of Shelby, IA and David (spouse, Traci) Buck of Elkhorn, NE; sisters, Bessie Langer of Council Bluffs, IA, Vera (spouse, Wayne) Raasch of Harlan, IA, Edna Barton of Colorado Springs, CO, and Retha Buck of New York, NY; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; other family and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Roscoe August and Lillian Katherine (nee Matthiessen) Buck; brothers, Lowell Buck and Roscoe Buck; sisters, Veta Bock, Mildred Whannell, Lois Mortensen, and Alta Hamilton

Education: attended country school in Panama, Shelby County, IA, until the second grade when the family moved to Shelby, IA; he then attended Shelby schools, and graduated with the Class of 1943

Religious affiliation: member, First Presbyterian Church, Shelby, IA, and had served on the church board.

Military service: Drafted into the U. S. Army in August 1943. He served in England, France, and Germany with the 573rd Anti-aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was discharged in April 1946.

Marriage: Aletha Frances Staub; Feb. 15, 1947; Council Bluffs, IA

Employment: While in high school, Robert drove truck for Elmer Kiesel Trucking. After his military service, he was employed by Shelby Elevator while also driving truck for Clarence Kiesel Trucking when needed. He then went to work for the Iowa Highway Roads Department in Neola, IA, and retired from there in 1990.

Hobbies/Interests: formerly served on the school board; member of the American Legion Post #240, Shelby, IA, of which he was Past Commander; he enjoyed working outdoors, and often took the opportunity to help many farmers in the area.
