Education: graduated from Tennant (IA) High School at age 16, Class of 1946. He then attended the Commercial Extension Trade School in Omaha, NE where he studied business and accounting.
Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at the Harlan (IA) Lutheran church; member, Shelby United Lutheran Church for the last 45 years
Military service: Drafted into the U. S. Marines in 1951 during the Korean War, and served 2 years in California before receiving his Honorable Discharge
Marriage: Monna Peterson; Aug. 28, 1955; Harlan Lutheran Church, Harlan, IA
Employment: Farmer; retired in 2005
Hobbies/Interests: Collecting antique Caterpillar machinery and restoring old farm equipment; golfing (he was part of the Avoca Golf Team for several years); deep sea fishing; traveling with his wife in their RV. Another passion of theirs was placing flags on Veterans’ graves for Memorial Day in the Shelby Cemetery, which they had been doing for 37 years. Was an active member of Shelby (IA) American Legion Post #240 for 40 years
