Education: attended country school in Shelby County, IA, as well as the Shelby (IA) Consolidated Schools. The family later moved to the rural Manilla, IA area where she graduated from Manilla High School, Class of 1939.

Religious affiliation: baptized on July 23, 1971 at the Wesleyan Camp in Charles City, IA and became a very active member of the Wesleyan Church in Denison. She served as a Sunday school teacher as well as a secretary and treasurer, and held each of the offices with the Wesleyan Women church group.

Employment: While married to Victor, Harriet did motel cleaning, restaurant work and cooked in Denison from 1960 to 1965. Harriet and Victor then bought and operated the Adam’s Café in Kiron, IA from 1965 to 1973. After the death of Victor and her marriage to Zane, she spent time working at World Wide Packing in Denison, IA from Feb. 1974 until Sep. 1975; she later worked at the Super Value in Denison, IA from Oct. 1975 until she retired in Sep. 1984. Later, in Dec. 1994, she worked part-time at WESCO rehab facility in Denison until Sep. 1998.

Hobbies/Interests: donated a lot of her time to the Crawford County Association for Retarded Children which she started in 1953 and served on their board until 1970.
