Education: attended and graduated from Dow City-Arion (IA) schools with the Class of 1965

Religious affiliation: current member, St. Rose of Lima in Denison, IA; previously, he had served on the financial council and taught religion classes at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dow City, IA. He joined the Knights of Columbus and reached the highest level of 4th Degree Knight, and was selected to serve as Grand Knight.

Military service: U.S. Army, from 1966-1968

Marriage: Susanne Loutsch; Feb. 7, 1970; location not provided

Employment: After his military service, he was employed for 38 years at IBP/Tyson, and retired in 2003; he also farmed and raised livestock full-time for more than 40 years with his father in rural Crawford County, IA

Hobbies/Interests: liked to bowl, golf, socialize, and play slow-pitch softball for the Dunlap (IA) Blackshirts team. He also served on the board of the Dunlap Golf Course; spent many hours volunteering at pancake breakfasts as well as flipping burgers at football games; purchased a motorcycle after retiring and spent many hours riding with his wife, Susanne.
