Survived by: Daughter, Cindy Young of Mission Viejo, CA; son, Neal Schirm (spouse, Pam) of Avoca, IA; daughter, Nancy (spouse, Jeff) Blum of Blair, NE; AFS student, Conchi (spouse, Phil) Madson of Cincinnati, OH; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (spouse, Dolly) Schirm of Falls Church, VA; other family and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Emilie Freida and Henry Ludwig Schirm; wife, Dixie; son-in-law, Dale Young; sister, Margaret Persing

Education: attended and graduated from high school at Adair (IA) High School, Class of 1937

Religious affiliation: member, First Presbyterian Church in Walnut, IA

Military service: U.S. Coast Guard, serving as a Machinist’s Mate in New York, Curtis Bay, MD, Ketchikan, AK, and St. Louis, MO.

Marriage: Dixie Kjeldgaard; July 24, 1943; St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, New York City, NY

Employment: After high school, Al went to work for Parrott Produce in Adair, IA. After serving in the military during WWII, Al farmed and also purchased Home Produce in 1946 and changed the name to Schirm Produce & Feed. He retired in 1984.

Hobbies/Interests: travel; spent winters in Texas; was very involved in the community: member, Masonic Lodge in Marne, Za Ga Zig Shrine, 70-year member of Walnut American Legion Post No. 422, and member of Walnut AMVETS Post No. 45.
