Education: attended rural Audubon County (IA) schools and graduated from the Elk Horn (IA) High School, Class of 1945; in 1968, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University.

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Elk Horn, IA; active member of the Elk Horn (IA) Lutheran Church

Marriage: Richard Nelson; Jan. 30, 1949; Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Elk Horn, IA

Employment: taught rural schools in Clay Township #2 and #3 in Shelby County, IA before her marriage; afterwards, she continued to teach at rural schools before settling on teaching 4th grade in the Elk Horn (IA) Community Schools; she retired from teaching after doing so for more than 30 years.

Hobbies/Interests: member, Danish Windmill Association; life-time member, National Education Association; charter member, Shelby County Historical Society; long-time volunteer at the Family History Center of the Danish Immigrant Museum and proudly co-authored the Elk Horn (IA) Community History Book. In 1999, Norma and Richard received the honor of being named the King and Queen of Elk Horn’s Tivoli Fest.
