Military service: U. S. Air Force, 1951 – 1954; was a gunner on the B-29 bomber

Marriage: Rosemary “Rosie” Schwery; Jan. 18, 1955; St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, Panama, IA

Employment: farmed the Greiner Century Farm his entire life; also worked at the pork plant in Harlan, IA during the 60's and 70's; retired from farming in May 2009.

Hobbies/Interests: Was honored as Shelby County Farmer of the Year in 1978; actively served as an adjutant in the American Legion; sang in the St. Mary’s Choir and Panama Community Chorus and was very involved in community theater productions in Panama and in Harlan. Was involved in his children’s activities and, while a Panama Cub Scout Leader, built the pinewood derby track. He was handy at fixing and building most anything; he loved restoring bicycles and his tractor, and would go to swap meets, flea markets and antique fairs to find parts. He loved to travel to see his children all over the country, to go on cruises and to attend NASCAR races at the Texas Motor Speedway and at Daytona 500. Enjoyed playing cards, going to casinos, and dancing.
