Employment: worked as a hired girl during summer months and after graduating from high school. She also worked at the Hancock branch of the Avoca State Bank for a period of time following graduation. After her marriage, they both worked first as hired hands and then later farmed for themselves. In later years she was a waitress at the Gardens Restaurant in Walnut for about 16 years. Ruth was also a desk clerk at the Walnut Super 8 Motel for about 16 years.
