Funeral services: Monday, Dec. 12, 2016; Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA; burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, IA. As a result of having been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia, after death, J C. was able to donate his brain to the Human Brain and Spinal Fluid Resource Center at UCLA in Los Angeles, CA, for scientific and medical research.

Survived by: Wife of 46 years, Wilma “Willie” Olesen of Avoca, IA; sons, J Christopher Olesen II (spouse, Tonya) of Avoca, IA, and Jeremy Brett Olesen (spouse, Amy) of Altoona, IA; daughter, Brandi Jayne (spouse, Wade) Schuknecht of Maple Grove, MN; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Willard Olesen (spouse, Susan) of Greenfield, IA; sister, Catherine Olesen of Greenfield, IA; nieces; nephews; friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Herbert Carl and Eleanor Lucille (nee Wild) Olesen; grandchildren, Parker Olesen and Baby Schuknecht

Education: graduated from AvoHa High School in Avoca, IA, Class of 1962; attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska, for 1 year

Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in Sep. 1965; he was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in NJ, where he worked with C130s on the flight line.

Employment: Following his military service, J C. owned and operated a specialty parts company in New Hampshire. In 1975, he joined his father at Olesen Chevrolet-Oldsmobile in Avoca, IA, and became the 4th generation to work at the dealership. He retired in 2009, but still visited the shop almost daily.

Hobbies/Interests: In high school, he was a member of the Coachman Car Club, and enjoyed restoring vehicles; he always had a project underway. He enjoyed attending NASCAR races, playing golf, and attending Jimmy Buffett concerts. He was a former member of Rotary, had previously served as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Iowa Automobile Dealers Association.
