Military service: Enlisted at age 20 in the U. S. Army, for 2 years; was stationed in Germany

Marriage: Eileen Kaufmann; Sep. 4, 1965; St. Boniface Catholic Church, Westphalia, IA

Employment: After his military service, Gene worked in Omaha, NE at Cook’s Paint; with Eileen, they relocated to Genoa, NE, where Gene owned a country store located in the center of 4 different towns. After closing the store, Gene raised hogs. He also worked for Carnarvon Sand and Gravel in Denison, IA. He eventually retired because of poor health.

Hobbies/Interests: Member of the Manilla (IA) school board for 3 years; avid Nebraska football fan
