She went back to school at Moorehead (MN) State Teachers College to advance her teaching opportunities.

In 1980, the family moved to Clarinda, IA where she managed a gas station for a while until she again began her home daycare. She enjoyed the daycare for several years until they retired to the Harlingen, TX.
