Survived by: Wife, Phyllis of Harlan, IA; son, Curt (spouse, Sheri) Stephany of Gretna, NE; daughters, Rozanne Linde of Harlan, IA and Janeen (spouse, Steve) Oberembt of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren

Predeceased by: Parents, Joseph and Mary Helen (nee Glawinski) Stephany; brothers, William, Norbert, Edward, Leo, Charles, John and Howard Stephany; sisters, Dorothy Schechinger and Mary Costello; son-in-law, John Linde

Education: attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Panama, IA; he enjoyed playing sports there, especially basketball, and graduated with the Class of 1945 as valedictorian of his class.

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church, Panama, IA

Military service: U. S. Marines, Aug. 1945 – Aug. 1946; he spent time on Iwo Jima and with occupational forces in Japan at the time of their surrender. Later, he was recalled to serve his country during the Korean Conflict, from Oct. 1950 until he was honorably discharged in Nov. 1951.

Marriage: Phyllis Petsche; Aug. 29, 1953; St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: After his military service, began his career in the auto parts business with Storz Supply in Harlan, IA for a few years, and then later at E.M. Christensen Motors. After his second term of military service, he returned to work in the parts department at E.M. Christensen Motors for another 34 years; he then spent 13 years at Olesen Motors in Avoca, IA, until his retirement.

Hobbies/Interests: bowling; hunting; travel; going to casinos; long-time member of the Shelby County VFW Post No. 941 and the Harlan American Legion Helmer Reyelt Post No. 150; also, a past member of the Harlan Volunteer Fire Department for many years and had served on its board.
