Survived by: Wife of 53 years, Carol Mattox of Shelby, IA; daughter, Laura Tennigkeit of Underwood, IA; son, Michael (spouse, Shelly) Mattox of Brooklyn Park, MN; brother, Marland Mattox of Omaha, NE; sister, Marlene (spouse, Glen) Hipnar of Shelby, IA; grandchildren, Mason Tennigkeit, Austin Tennigkeit, Paige Tennigkeit, Kurt Mattox, and Kaitlyn Mattox; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Warren and Mae (nee Mueller) Mattox; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mattox; niece, Patti Whitmore; nephew, Ashley Mattox; son-in-law, Mark Tennigkeit

Education: attended school in Shelby, IA and participated in sports; he was a member of the basketball teams which went to State in 1956 and 1957. He graduated with the Class of 1958.

Religious affiliation: Member, First Presbyterian Church, Shelby, IA; had served on the Church Council there

Military service: U. S. Army, 1959 – 1962; received the honor of being Soldier of the Month

Marriage: Carol Joan Armstrong; Jan. 27, 1963; Congregational Church, Fontanelle, IA

Employment: After his marriage, he helped with his family’s farm and trucking business in Shelby, IA. He later took over the farming operation, along with various ag-related jobs. In addition, he worked for Farm Service Cooperative for 10 years; he retired in July 2002.

Hobbies/Interests: Nascar fan; enjoyed college basketball and football; morning coffee with friends; traveling, having been to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the Panama Canal, and the western Caribbean; especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s’ activities
