Life Legacy

Delores Ann, daughter of Roy Lewis and Ruby Fern (Bidlack) Heiman, was born May 28, 1943 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She lived north of Manilla and attended East Boyer #7 school, only ½ mile north of the family farm. Delores graduated from Manilla High School in 1961.

Delores worked in the Manilla Café and helped out on the family farm. She was united in marriage with David Zeman on October 13, 1970. They lived southwest of Manilla where they raised four children. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, Delores was an active partner in the farming operation – raising feeder pigs, Holstein heifers and horses. Throughout her life Delores was the embodiment of her beliefs in hard work, honesty, kindness and compassion. She treasured her family and friends. In her spare time Delores enjoyed riding horses, shopping, casino trips and flower gardening. She attended Sacred Heart Church in Manilla for many years, and later was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Church in Defiance.

In the fall of 2014 Delores was diagnosed with ocular melanoma cancer. She was receiving treatments at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City until God called her home on Saturday, September 24, 2016. She was 73 years, 3 months and 27 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Ruby Heiman; brother Dudley Heiman; nephew Shawn Heiman; and a Jasa infant grandchild.

Delores is survived by her husband David Zeman of Manilla; children: Terry Zeman (Susan) of Manilla; Debbie Janke (Dean Jr.) of Winside, NE; Sheri Brockelsby (Kevin) of Waterloo; Kristi Jasa (Terry) of Manilla; sister Lois Schwartz (Larry) of Manilla; brother Roger Heiman of Irwin; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
