Survived by: Wife of 62 years, Shirley Nollen of Harlan; children, Deb Nollen of North Liberty, IA, Kim Hagen of Riverside, IA and Scott Nollen of Harlan, IA; grandchildren, Ryan Baumbach, Nathan Brown and Sean Nollen; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Betty Brown; sister, Marilyn (spouse, Ed) Goeser of Harlan, IA; brother, Ron Nollen (spouse, Ruth) of Westphalia, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Michael and Frances (nee Thielen) Nollen; sisters, Lila Kirschbaum and Betty Bruck; brothers, John “Buster” Nollen and Kenneth Nollen

Education: attended St. Paul’s Catholic School, Defiance, IA; graduated with the Class of 1947

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Defiance, IA

Military service: U. S. National Guard, serving until honorably discharged in May 1950; a few years later, he enlisted into the U. S. Coast Guard and he served in Alabama, Louisiana and later Texas; while working on the USS Dione, he helped with the deployment of navigation buoys throughout rivers in the Gulf Shores area. He was honorably discharged again in April 1959.

Marriage: Shirley Stoltz; April 19, 1954; St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Harlan, IA.

Employment: Harry worked at the lumber yard and as a mechanic after high school until he enlisted with the National Guard. After his discharge, he farmed with his father and on other farms. He then enlisted in the U. S Coast Guard, and upon this discharge, he returned to Harlan where he worked as a mechanic at Benton Motors. Harry then ran the Phillips 66 station on Old Highway 59, and then ran the newly-constructed Phillips 66 station. It was here that he also ran a bulk tank service and also ran other gas stations in Persia, Avoca and Missouri Valley, IA. He sold his interest in Nollen Oil and retired for a short time before going back to work again--this time, on the road as a sales representative for Milder Oil Company, covering territory throughout the Midwest. He permanently retired in 2002.
