Employment: After high school, he worked on the family farm, and then joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (“CCC”) and lived in Montana for a year before returning to the Audubon, IA area. In 1944, he traveled to California with his brother where they worked in the shipyards for a year, before again returning to Iowa and marrying. Together, they farmed in Audubon County north of Kimballton, IA for a short time, and Robert also drove livestock trucks for several area farmers. In 1948, he purchased a cream route and worked that for several years. He returned to driving livestock and doing general trucking. Robert became the bus supervisor for the Elk Horn/Kimballton school district in 1968 and held this position for over 23 years before retiring in 1990.
Hobbies/Interests: member of the Danish Brotherhood at Elk Horn, IA and the Danish Immigrant Museum; after he retired, Robert and Mabel enjoyed traveling around the U. S.
