Education: attended Ames, IA schools and graduated with the Class of 1943; after his military service, he attended Drake University, Des Moines, IA, and graduated with a BA degree in Music. He continued his education by receiving his Master of Education from the University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE.

Religious affiliation: member, Cross Road Baptist (formerly Campus Baptist) Church in Ames, IA; he volunteered as a choir director, worship leader, and pianist; was a self-taught piano tuner, and taught himself sign language, which he used for the deaf at church.

Military service: U.S. Navy, 1943 to 1946

Marriage: Ramona Jensen; Dec. 30, 1955; Bethel Baptist Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: began teaching music at the elementary level and as a principal for 20 years. After moving to Ames, IA, he became a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years, and retired in 1988.

Hobbies/Interests: classical music and opera
