Employment: Farmer; he later began working for Zimmerman Farm Supply, helping with construction of grain bins on farms throughout southwest Iowa; later, he worked for the Pottawattamie County Road Department until his retirement.
Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed working in his flower garden; attending garage sales and flea markets, collecting antique tools and then selling them at the Carstens Farm Days Celebration; making homemade wooden yard ornaments; volunteering at the Farmall Museum in Avoca, IA
