Employment: After graduating from high school, she moved to Des Moines, IA where she worked at an ammunition plant. She then moved to HI and worked at the defense plant at Hickman Field. While living in Hawaii, Betty was on a semi-pro basketball team who were the island champions. Betty next moved to Chicago, IL and worked for Bell Howell.
After relocating to IA and her marriage to James Fitzgerald, together they owned and operated the Shamrock Inn in Dunlap where, in 1964, Betty started working in the tavern. After selling the tavern, she worked at the Dunlap Care Center for more than 10 years. Following that employment, she worked in home health care.

Hobbies/Interests: member of the Dunlap (IA) Historical Society and the American Legion Auxiliary; enjoyed sewing, reading, working crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble and Cribbage.
