Military service: enlisted in the U. S. National Guard in 1958, and then enlisting in the U. S. Army, spending time stationed in Germany. Honorably discharged in 1960.

Employment: Before his military service, he worked construction and welding jobs; after his military service, he returned to working some construction and welding jobs before working for local farmers in NE as a hired hand. He also drove a cattle truck. Through the years, he was employed by various trucking companies; in 1973, he started working with Double “SS” Trucking Company when the family relocated to Avoca, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed assembling model cars, trucks, trains and John Deere tractors; watching sports and old westerns; was a big Green Bay Packer fan.
