Education: attended Banner Country School through grade school and Woodbine (IA) High School; graduated with the Class of 1941. He attended Iowa State University for 1 year before joining the Army and being sent to Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK, for classes and boot camp.

Military service: enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, OK, for classes and boot camp. Following training in Stillwater, Ken served with the 103rd Infantry Division in Europe, and returned home in April 1946.
