Dallas then enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1943. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 8th Army Air Force. In 1945 Dallas was honorably discharged and returned to Audubon.

In May of 2014 Dallas became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn. He died there on January 16, 2016 at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 19 days.
