Funeral services: Monday, Oct. 26, 2015; Congregational United Church of Christ, Harlan, IA; burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, IA, with military rites conducted by VFW Post #941 and Helmer Reyelt AL Post #150, Harlan, IA

Survived by: Daughters, Patricia Robinson of Irwin, IA, and Laurel (spouse, Tim) Burger of Harlan, IA; grandsons, Jason (spouse, Kaitlyn) Burger and their daughter, Lillian, of Harlan, IA, Jesse (spouse, Brianne “Bri”) Burger of Omaha, NE, and Christian Robinson of Irwin, IA; granddaughter, Jaedyn Robinson of Irwin, IA; sister, Lois (spouse, Carl) Johnson of Omaha, NE; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

Education: Attended rural schools until his family moved to Ewing, NE; graduated from Ewing Public Schools, where he was on the football and basketball teams; he graduated with the Class of 1948. After his military service, he attending Norfolk Junior College, Norfolk, NE, and received an Associate in Arts degree in May 1956. Chuck then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, NE, and Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE, graduating in May 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. During his summers from 1968-1970, he attended Colorado State University, Greeley, CO, and received his Master’s Degree in 1970.

Religious affiliation: Member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Harlan, IA, where he had previously served as a member of the Trustees for the Congregation.

Military service: Enlisted in the U. S. Army in Jan. 1951; trained as a tank mechanic and served in the 73rd Tank Battalion in South Korea as well as the Armored School in Fort Knox, KY. Discharged in March 1954 having attained the rank of sergeant.

Marriage: Evelyn Ann Thompson; Aug. 24, 1956; First Congregational Church, Wisner, NE

Employment: Worked in road construction until January 1951 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After receiving his BA degree, he taught mathematics and science in the Cumberland-Massena (IA) School District from 1959-1962. Chuck and Evelyn moved to Harlan, IA in 1962, where Charles taught high school mathematics; he retired in 1992. He had also taught Trigonometry and Calculus for Iowa Western Community College.

Hobbies/Interests: After retiring, Chuck and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and visiting national and state parks. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Wisner, NE, and was also a member of the Lions Clubs in both Cumberland and Harlan, IA.
