Education: attended school in Earling, IA for 12 years. He did well in school and graduated second in his class. He loved playing basketball and helped the team go to the state tournament.

Employment: worked at Boyer Valley Fertilizer Plant in Wall Lake, IA, where he was the plant manager. In 1965, Jerry became part owner of Boyer Valley and later sold the company to ConAgra in 1985.

Hobbies/Interests: Jerry's priority was his family. He was a loving father and the children were brought up with a strong Christian faith, to respect others, to be kind, honest, loyal and trustworthy. Jerry loved playing ball with the children and their friends and was the all-time pitcher. As his grandchildren grew, Jerry loved taking them fishing; additionally, he loved watching football with them on TV and loved going to their games.
