Education: attended rural school at “Mount Zion”

Religious affiliation: baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton, IA, where he remained a member his adult life.

Military service: Enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 3, 1955. During his tour of duty he was stationed at Fort Sill, OK. He was honorably discharged on March 1, 1957.

Marriage: Barbara Larsen; Oct. 2, 1959; Bethel Baptist Church, Harlan, IA

Employment: Ralph farmed the family farm 5 miles north of Kimballton until 1978. He was then employed by Roberts Rural Supply, constructing grain bins. After Roberts closed, he was employed as a mechanic at Conklin Ford in Audubon, IA. until it closed and purchased by Larsen Ford in Exira, IA. He worked at Larsen’s until they, too, closed the doors. Ralph worked at Swanson Automotive for a short time and then was employed at First Line Auto in Kimballton. During all this time he also farmed and raised sheep.

Hobbies/Interests: an avid NASCAR fan; he also had a passion for Oliver tractors and Fords. He enjoyed tinkering, but most of all he loved being with his family.
