Funeral services: Wednesday March 12, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Elk Horn Lutheran Church; Interment will follow at the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

Survived by: wife of 73 years, Frances (“Tootie”) Klein of Elk Horn, IA; son, Larry Klein (spouse, Nancy) of Harlan; daughter Faye (spouse, Jerry) Nelsen of Anita, IA; grandchildren, Tracy Klein of Harlan, IA, Marcy Paden (spouse, Eddie) of Syracuse, NE, Lori Forsberg (spouse, Wade) of Thief River Falls, MN, and Sheri Bernard (spouse, Jon) of Kingwood, TX; step-grandchildren, Jessika, Brittney and Cassidy Forsberg; great-grandchildren, Michael, Taylor and Marcus Klein, Mackayla and Cody Bernard, Hunter and Sydney Paden, and Jadeann Forsberg; sister, Vera Stedman (spouse, Allen) of Wilderville, OR; brother-in-law, Dale Berst of St. Paul, NE; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Hugo and Elizabeth (nee Trautman) Klein; brothers, Ruben Klein, Gilbert Klein (and spouse, Dorothy) and Emanuel Klein (and spouse, Ila); sister, Vernita Fuehrer (and spouse, Henry).

Education: attended country school

Religious affiliation: member of the Elk Horn (IA) Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School there

Marriage: Frances (Tootie) Berst ; Dec. 11, 1940; St. Paul, NE

Employment: moved to Grand Junction, CO and worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad; moved to Cushing, NE, in 1937 and worked for a farmer, Frank Berst; he later married the farmer’s daughter, Frances. After 18 years, they moved to Elk Horn, IA where Clarence accepted a position at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He later worked for the Salem Lutheran Homes in maintenance until he retired.

Hobbies/Interests: past member of the fire department for 24 years, Better Elk Horn Club, and served on the town and church councils. In 2007, Clarence and Tootie were crowned King and Queen of the Tivoli Fest in Elk Horn. In retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling and camping.
