Funeral services: Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA; Pastor Heather Ploen officiated. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, IA.

Survived by: Husband of 55 years, Melvin Nelsen of Shelby, IA; daughter, Rhonda Nelsen of Omaha, NE; sons, Steve (spouse, Kerry) Nelsen of Kansas City, MO, and Dan (spouse, Lynette) Nelsen of Walnut, IA; brother, Delbert (spouse, Delores) Krummel of Hancock, IA; sisters, Bonnie Kardell of Avoca, IA and Shirley Fritz of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law, JoAnn Krummel of Avoca, IA; 9 grandchildren; other relatives and friends

Predeceased by: Parents, Rhinhardt and Hilda (nee Rock) Krummel; brother, Willis Krummel

Education: Attended Pleasant #7 country school and graduated from Avoca High School with the Class of 1955.

Religious affiliation: Active member of United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA, where she taught Sunday School

Marriage: Melvin Glen Nelsen; May 25, 1958; Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA

Employment: After high school graduation, she worked at Mutual of Omaha, Omaha, NE, for a short while. After her marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Shelby, IA, and in 1967 purchased their present farm place, located south of Shelby. Later, she was employed at Carley Drug in Avoca, IA, for several years.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, Shelby American Legion Post #240 Auxiliary; member, the Card Club; had previously been a 4-H leader; prior member, Band Parents Organization; enjoyed cooking and baking.; liked listening to and dancing to polka music; loved angel pins. She possessed a great sense of humor, and was active in attending school and sporting events for her children and grandchildren.
