Funeral services: Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, IA; Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin, IA.

Survived by: Wife of 41 years, Barbara Petersen of Manilla, Iowa; daughters, Amy (spouse, Andy) Tibbs of Earlham, IA, and Julie (spouse, Brandon) Bruggeman of Apple Valley, MN; brothers, Peter (spouse, Shirley) Petersen of Canyon, TX, Roger (spouse, Pamela) Petersen of Blair, NE, and Everett (spouse, Doreen) Petersen of Hampton, IA; grandchildren, Kelsey Tibbs, Haley Tibbs, John Bruggeman, and Randy Bruggeman; other relatives and friends

Education: graduated from Manning (IA) High School, Class of 1954

Religious affiliation: Member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, IA, where he had served on the Church Council.

Military service: enlisted in the U. S. Army; also served in the U. S. Army Reserves

Marriage: Barbara Jean Jorgensen; Aug. 20, 1972; Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca, IA

Employment: After his high school graduation, John worked as a farmhand for Norman Scott. In 1960, John purchased his farm. While farming, he also drove a school bus for the IKM school district for many years. He retired in 1998.

Hobbies/Interests: enjoyed watching sports, especially cheering on the Chicago Bears and Cubs. During his retirement years, he liked the time he spent in town, visiting with many friends.
