Funeral services: Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Elk Horn, IA; Burial was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery, Elk Horn, IA

Survived by: Children, Jack (spouse, Nancy) Krogstad, of Glenwood, IA; Eileen (spouse, Wes) Ryun, of Council Bluffs, IA, and Patricia (spouse, Patrick) Edwards, of North Liberty, IA; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren

Predeceased by: Parents, Edwin and Lenora (nee Petersen) Krogstad; grandson, Timothy Christensen; granddaughter, Kristy (Krogstad) Sigvartsen; brothers, Stanley, Alvin, and Norman; sister, Goldie Calkins

Education: Graduated from Elk Horn (IA) High School, Class of 1936

Religious affiliation: member and former treasurer for the Exira Seventh-day Adventist Church, Exira, IA

Military service: Drafted into the U. S. Army in July 1944; served in India during World War II, where he was in charge of the Motor Pool which supported a critical military supply line commonly referred to as the "Burma Road." Honorably discharged in July 1946.

Marriage: Geraldine 'Gere' Archibald; Feb. 28, 1941; Nevada, IA

Employment: Pete was very entrepreneurial, finding employment where there were available opportunities. Upon graduation from high school, he owned the first school bus and operated the first school bus route in Elk Horn, IA. He soon owned his own livestock trucking business which he operated until he went in the military. After his discharge in 1946, he resumed the operation of his trucking business until 1955, when he decided his family took precedence over the many nights away from home. Pete then worked for the city of Elk Horn for a number of years, and then started working at Hoegh Oil Company in Atlantic, IA, where he remained for 24 years. Pete retired at the age of 62 and again drove the school bus for Elk Horn Schools.

Hobbies/Interests: Pete was a baseball fan for most of his life, and visited many different big league parks with family members. He participated in many activities that his children and grandchildren were involved with, including hunting, fishing, and riding horses in parades. Pete particularly enjoyed spending time with his family.
