Survived by: Wife of 56 years, Joni, of Shelby, IA; daughters, Kathy (spouse, Doug) Applegate of Oakland, IA and Michelle (spouse, Jonathan) Smith of Port Edwards, WI; sister, Joyce (spouse, Tom) Rihner of Shelby; grandchildren, Brent (spouse, Brittany) Applegate, Luke (spouse, Kate) Applegate, Jenifer Smith, David Smith; great-grandson, Tristan James Applegate

Predeceased by: Parents, Paul Fred Carl and Helen Henrietta (nee Burmeister) Eggerss; brothers, Paul Eggerss, Jr. and Ronald Eggerss; sister-in-law, Nadine Eggerss

Education: attended country schools and the Shelby (IA) schools, and graduating from Shelby High School with the Class of 1949

Religious affiliation: member, United Lutheran Church, Shelby, IA, where he had previously served on the church council.

Military service: drafted into the U.S. Army on Nov. 1953; he served in Germany and was discharged in Oct. 1955

Marriage: Rhoda Joan “Joni” Miner; Feb. 3, 1957; Avoca, IA

Employment: farmed in the Shelby, IA area until they bought their own farm in 1968; they retired from farming in Sep. 2004. In addition, Ralph did a lot of agriculture-related trucking in the Shelby County area.

Hobbies/Interests: member, Shelby American Legion Post #240; enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, snow skiing and watching sports on television.
