Funeral services: Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Elk Horn, IA; Pastor Keith Menter officiated. Interment, with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post 322, was at Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery, Elk Horn, IA.

Survived by: wife of 55 years, Shirley Christensen of Elk Horn, IA; children, Craig Christensen of Walnut, IA, Troy (spouse, Mary) Christensen of Elk Horn, IA, and Jan (spouse, Rick) Theisen of Johnston, IA; grandchildren, Cole and Kyra Theisen; step-grandchildren, Tara (spouse, Cory) Scholl of Lewis, IA and Amber (spouse, Corey) Chalupa of Waterloo, IA; 4 step-great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Esther Fredrickson of Walnut, IA; brother, Ivan Christensen of Woodbine, IA; sisters-in-law, Lois Jean Christensen and Marlene Christensen, both of Elk Horn, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

Education: attended country school and completed his schooling in Audubon, IA, graduating with the Class of 1955

Religious affiliation: member, Elk Horn Lutheran Church; he served on the board of directors of the church.

Military service: After high school graduation, Dale entered the U.S. Marine Corps; he was honorably discharged.

Marriage: Shirley Fredrickson, August 31, 1958, at Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, IA

Employment: After completing his military service, he worked for Carl Bonneson as a carpenter in Elk Horn, IA. After his marriage, Dale and Shirley started farming in Audubon County; in 1968, they moved to Shirley’s family farm near Rorbeck, IA.

Hobbies/Interests: was very active in the Elk Horn community: member, SW IA Farm Business Assn as well as the Elk Horn Saddle Club; leader, Rorbeck Rambler 4-H Club; was the Beef Superintendent at the Shelby County Fair. Throughout his life, Dale enjoyed his family, dancing, riding horses, and sharing his carpentry work, often doing projects for many in the Elk Horn-Kimballton Communities. After their retirement, Dale and Shirley enjoyed traveling to their grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.
