Religious affiliation: Gene and Wanda were members of First Baptist Church in Harlan, IA and also attended services at the Methodist Church in Kirkman, IA.

Employment: Gene helped his father and brothers with the dairy production, crops, and chores. Gene’s sparked interest in agriculture helped him excel in Ag and Science classes at school. After his graduation, Gene began farming full time and later purchased the family farm from his parents in 1958. During his dairy cow operation Gene was milking approximately fifty cows per day. He later raised mixed breed feeder cattle and served in the Iowa Breeder Coop from 1962 to 1966. Gene retired from farming in 1992.

Hobbies/Interests: was a member of the Kirkman Volunteer Fire Department from 1955 to 1970; was named Cattleman of the Year in 1983; spent 4 years on the Board of Directors for Shelby County Farm Bureau and 4 years serving on the Shelby County Extension Council. In 1985 his family farm had achieved “Century Farm” status.
