Funeral services: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013; Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home, Shelby, IA; Rev. Paul M. Reynolds, Chaplain of Salem Lutheran Home, Elk Horn, IA, officiated. Darlene donated her body to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE.

Survived by: Daughters, Debra (spouse, Roger) Grant of Millard, NE and Sharon (spouse, Terry) Weis of Treynor, IA; son, Bruce Arp (spouse, Julie Wade) of Avoca, IA; sisters, Dorothy Randeris of Audubon, IA, Ruth (spouse, Elmer) Heimerman of Boone, IA and Nancy Blum of Anoka, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Troll of Walnut, IA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren

Predeceased by: Parents, Amiel and Hulda H. (nee Fries) Troll; husband of 40 years, Edwin B. Arp (deceased July 16, 1993); brothers, Wilfred Troll and Alvin Troll; sisters, Gertrude Jacobsen, Alverta Hansen and Leora Kirk.

Education: attended Walnut, IA country schools through grade 8; attended Harlan (IA) High School and graduated with the Class of 1949

Employment: For 4 years, she worked for Nelson Motor Company and Greenbay Lumber Company, both in Harlan, IA;. Darlene was later employed as a cook by the Shelby school system for 15 years, and also kept the books for the family TV business. She was later employed as a resident counselor for REM Leadway in Shelby, IA for several years.

Hobbies/Interests: member, American Legion Auxiliary #240; member, the Shelby Garden Club; member, the Friendship Club; Charter Queen member of the Red Hat Society, Shelby, IA. She loved raising flowers, and enjoyed playing cards, dancing, camping, and fishing.
