Employment: In 1943, Mary went to work in Des Moines, IA at the Iowa Dept. of Social Welfare. Later she worked at the Veterans Administration as Secretary to the Personnel Officer and Registrar. She was then the Harlan City Librarian for 25 years, until she retired in 1990.

Hobbies/Interests: Member, IA Library Association and the IA Small Library Association. In 1991, was named Citizen of the Year. After her retirement, Mary was Chairman of the Harlan Library Focus Group, a member of the Harlan Main Street Board, the Shelby County Historic Preservation Commission, Myrtue Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Elm Crest Auxiliary.
