Military service: enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and then was discharged after a short time due to an injury

Employment: previously employed by Garst Company, as well as employed by Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids, IA; Ricky then received his CDL and started driving semi-trucks. He began driving locally for Frank Cretsinger and then became an over-the-road trucker.
