Florence Schroeder
September 20, 1917 - July 22, 2010

Florence Bertha, daughter of Henry and Emma (Ruhde) Karsten was born on September 20, 1917 at Manning, Iowa. She attended country school and Manning High School. Florence then began working in the Manning area.

On September 6, 1940 she was united in marriage with Merlin Schroeder at Manning, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union. The family made their home in the Manning area and eventually settled in town. Florence and Merlin later owned Schroeder Feed Store.

Florence enjoyed bowling league for many years and in her spare time liked to do embroidery, sew, bake and go fishing. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

After Merlin died in 2005, Florence became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn. She was later admitted to Myrtue Medical Center at Harlan where she died on July 22, 2010 at the age of 92 years 10 months and 2 days.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merlin in 2005 and son Ron in 1999; brothers Lester Karsten and a brother at birth and sisters Roselle Hargens and Edna Sonksen.

She is survived by her son Keith and wife Judy of Elk Horn; daughters in law Ruth Ann Schroeder of West Des Moines and Faith Schroeder of Des Moines; grandchildren Elizabeth and husband Randy Watkins of Galveston, TX and Brian Schroeder and wife Shelly of Denver, CO; great-granddaughter Madison Watkins; sister Elaine Struve of Whiting and sister in law Florence Karsten of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
