Folmer Alvin Reich, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2007 at Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa, at the age of 96 years and two months. He was born on March 28, 1911 near Gates in Audubon County, Iowa. He was the son of Otto and Ella (Andersen) Reich. He attended school in the area and helped on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed at Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn in 1927.

On June 29, 1935, Folmer was united in marriage with Reta Alice Hansen at the Knuntze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE. Two daughters were born to this union. Folmer worked for Shelby County in road maintenance from 1937 to 1943. The couple rented and farmed west of Elk Horn until 1958 when they purchased their own farm closer to Elk Horn.

They farmed until their retirement in 1978. Following retirement Folmer and Reta moved into Elk Horn, where Folmer lived until 2004 when he became a resident of Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn. During retirement Folmer and Reta enjoyed traveling around the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed playing cards with their “card club”. Reta passed away in 1988.

Folmer was a life-long member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He always enjoyed a good card game, visiting with friends and watching old westerns on television. He also enjoyed participating in the National Corn Husking Contest. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his daughters: Shirlyn and husband Mark Petersen of Kimballton and Beverly and husband Roger DuVall of Belmond; five grandchildren: Tami Kohl (David) of Minden, IA; Todd Petersen (Julie) of Huxley, IA; Troy Petersen (Lori) of Salem NH; Dawn Sander (Mike) of Meservey, IA; Cheryl DuVall of Bartlesville, OK; eleven great-grandchildren: Joshua Kohl (Rhonda); Justin Kohl; Tyler and Tanner Petersen; Olivia and Julia Petersen; Korby, Ryann and Tate Sander; Cody and Trey DuVall; sisters: Viola Jensen, Verda Juelsgaard and Elaine Michaelsen; many other relatives and friends.
