Elaine Mildred, daughter of John and Anna (Kuhl) Foxhoven, was born May 24, 1930 in Defiance, Iowa. She attended school there until 1942 when she moved with her parents to Manilla. She graduated from Manilla High School in 1948.

Elaine was united in marriage with Eddie Meiners on December 28, 1948 at the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla. Four sons were born to this union. Eddie and Elaine farmed in the Manilla and Manning areas for most of their lives and for a short time in Ricketts. They retired and moved into Manilla in 1987.

Elaine was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla. In earlier years, Elaine and Eddie enjoyed going to dances in the area. Later on they enjoyed playing cards and took many pleasant trips to the casinos in the area. Elaine especially enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also embroidered baptismal gowns for the newborns of Sacred heart Parish. Above all, Elaine took pleasure in spending time with her family and special niece Norma Jean Kloewer of Stuart.

After the death of her husband in 2003, Elaine was able to remain in their home until May of 2011 when she became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home. She died there on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 25 days.
