Lavone Antje, daughter of Ahrend and Anna (Janssen) Reuwsaat, was born August 16, 1926, on the family farm near Manilla, Iowa. She spent her childhood years in the Denison area, and graduated from Denison High School in 1945. Lavone worked at a dime store in Cedar Rapids following graduation.

Lavone was united in marriage with Glen Kauffman on April 17, 1953, in Denison, Iowa. One daughter was born to this union. For the next twenty eight years, they lived in Audubon County where Lavone was an active farm wife and helped with the livestock and crops.

After the death of her husband in 1981, Lavone worked at the 59er restaurant in Harlan for a couple years. She then moved to Lubbock, Texas for five years and worked as a home care assistant for her son-in-law’s grandmother. In 1990 Lavone retired and moved to Irwin.

Lavone was a member of the Redline Church of Christ near Irwin, and the American Legion Auxillary in Irwin. She loved to be outside. Lavone had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables. She was a bird watcher and also enjoyed many types of crafts and cross stitch.

Lavone was dealing with both diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease when she became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan in September of 2002. She died there on November 12, 2007, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 27 days.

Lavone was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Glen.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Conder and her husband David of Lubbock, Texas; twin sister Laverne Clark of Harlan, Iowa; sister Delores Kauffman of Marne Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to Redline Church of Christ, Harlan Church of Christ, or the Alzheimer’s Unit at Elm Crest in Lavone’s memory.
